Yankee Doodle Bridge
It is well-known that the infrastructures of bridges throughout the country require replacement or repair. I live near one of those bridges and noticed the equipment staging for bridge work on I-95. When the project was underway, I was intrigued by the structures of the construction elements and decided to take a closer look with my camera. I spent a month or more photographing the various tools, machinery, and gear with a personal point of view. The components, viewed as shapes and forms, were fascinating and provided the essentials for a photographic documentation of the countless supplies – large and small – required for a quarter-mile span of repairs. The intentional use of black and white emphasizes the grittiness of the undertaking while the vast variety of material reveals the multifaceted task of bridge reconstruction.
